In keeping with our mission to provide stable, secure information systems which enable the business processes of the university, we balance the resources we have purchased with staff and system resources when agreeing to commit to custom application programming. We are able to produce some UNC Asheville-specific applications which leverage our database expertise with available tools and staff very effectively. Frequently, the projects completed are those which extend the usefulness of our purchased software solutions or projects where a web front-end is applied to retrieving or storing data in a database, such as elections, committee assignments, schedule of classes, directory services, etc.
Custom programming services should be requested by a department head by emailing the ITS Service Desk at helpdesk@unca.edu. AIS personnel will contact the requesting department for more information and do an assessment regarding the ability to do the project based on resources both staff and physical. In cases where all requests cannot be served because colliding requests, the Director of AIS will first work with the departments involved to find a solution. For major projects for which requests collide, resolution will be escalated through the LIRTC governing process.
