Site-Licensed Software

The university currently has a site license for the following pieces of commercial software. This means that the software can be installed on any university-owned machine on campus. Please contact the ITS Service Desk at itservicedesk@unca.edu if you would like to have any of the following installed on your university-owned computer. Mac users please check Self-Service to see if the software is already available for download.

Please note that this software is for personal (home) use and should not be installed on university-owned computers.  ITS does not support personal equipment or software.

Current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for free installation of ESRI ArcGIS on your personal device.  This link should not be used to download the software for university-owned machines.

Current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for free installation of Matlab on your personal device. Links require @unca.edu account sign-in:

Microsoft Office  FREE

Current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for personal use of both the online and downloadable versions of Microsoft Office 365 for free.  The downloadable version of Office 365 can be installed on up to 5 personal devices. Visit https://portal.office.com to access and download Office 365 for your personal use. Use your UNC Asheville email address (username@unca.edu) along with your security account password to access the site.  Please visit our Office 365 knowledge base for installation instructions and frequently asked questions.

Minitab FREE

Current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for free installation of MiniTab on your personal device.  This link should not be used to download the software for university-owned machines.  Installation media can also be checked out from the Circulation Desk in Ramsey Library.  Link requires @unca.edu account sign-in:  Instructions and download

Read&Write for Mobile Tablets (Andriod and iPads) FREE

Current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for free installation of the Read&Write app on their compatible Android and iPad devices, available in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Use your @unca.edu account to verify your license after installation.

Read&Write for Google Chrome FREE

Current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for free installation of the Read&Write for Google Chrome extension from the chrome web store. You must be signed in to both Chrome and Google Drive with your @unca.edu account to use the premium features on the toolbar and a restart of Chrome is required after installation. Please refer to texthelp support for any issues with the toolbar.

Read&Write Gold FREE

Current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for free installation of Read&Write Gold on your personal device.  This link should not be used to download the software for university-owned machines.  Please contact ITS if you need the software installed on a university-owned device. SAS FREE

SPSS FREE

Due to a limited number of SPSS license, current UNC Asheville students, faculty, and staff are eligible for limited installations of SPSS on personal devices. Please use the link below to submit your request. This link should not be used to request SPSS for university-owned machines. macOS

Built-in Apps

macOS comes loaded with software, including Apple's productivity suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) and creativity suite (iMovie, GarageBand, Photos). Many common computing functions like PDF viewing and editing, photo editing, and and web browsing work right out of the box without the need for installing software.

Additional Apps

ITS adds a minimal catalog of popular third-party applications to provide faculty and staff with alternatives to Apple's built-in apps.
